| Position Title: Upper School Teacher of Spanish Position Classification: Full-time (10 months), Faculty, Salaried Exempt Hours: US School Day is 7:55 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. plus after school coaching/activity duty Reports to: Head of Upper School Position Summary: St. Christopher’s Upper School seeks a dynamic educator with the ability or potential to teach and lead students across the entire high school Spanish curriculum. Ability and experience at the AP Literature level will be preferred. In addition, the successful candidate will be an effective advisor and capable manager of a co-curricular activity or coach of an athletic team. Qualifications & Key Skills: Candidates must - Hold at least a bachelor’s degree, preferably an advanced degree, in Spanish or a related area
- Be fluent in the language
- Have a minimum of three years teaching experience and a thorough knowledge of the discipline
- Be capable of enhancing the speaking, aural, reading, and writing skills of students in the language
- Demonstrate a familiarity, ease, and openness with integrating technology into the classroom
- Collaborate effectively with members of the department and the Upper School faculty to enhance students’ appreciation and understanding of language and culture
- Have the ability to enhance in students the School’s Essential Qualities such as creative thinking and problem solving, technological savvy, intellectual curiosity and risk taking, articulate communication, collaboration and teamwork, the ability to apply core knowledge to new and changing situations, and global awareness
Principal Responsibilities: - Teaching a full academic course load (four classes with two or three preps)
- Specific course assignments and levels (regular, honors and AP) may be determined on the strengths of the successful candidate
- Candidates should be prepared to teach in more than one area of the curriculum
- Advising (six to eight students)
- Coaching or leading a significant co-curricular activity
- Offering an X-Term cohort (experiential learning program)
- Handling other duties (study halls, chaperoning dances, etc.) as assigned
- Participating in the life of the school through committee work and regular presence at major school events such as concerts, plays, athletic contests, and other events as a means of supporting the students and the mission of the school
- Communicating in a timely and efficient manner with parents, as appropriate
- Staying abreast of best practices for teaching boys
