JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective
The Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes), in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a Preschool and Lower School Music Teacher. This position will work in our Preschool (Ages 3 - 4; PP3 and PP4). and our Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Classes. The Preschool and Lower Primary School Bilingual Music Teacher is responsible for teaching music education to students in Preschool and Lower Primary School, and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. This teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments, and listening to music. Additionally, this position may direct a school choir or band and/or participate in extracurricular activities, and will assist in the planning and coordination of school-wide music performances. Essential Functions - Teaches skills in music understanding/ appreciation, harmony, exploration in music, and choral music to Preschool and Primary students
- Plans/executes a balanced music program and organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
- Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of the program
- Develops curriculum in a collaboration with programme coordinator/s and teachers
- Encourages students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate of age and skill levels of students
- Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse
- Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required
- Evaluates each students' musical growth, performance, and musical understanding
- Assesses each individual's contribution to the performance of the group
- Selects appropriate music, books, and instructional aids to enhance learning and requests musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary
- Cooperates with the Head of Preschool, Head of Primary, and the Primary Years Programme Coordinator and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs
- Communicates with parents and school staff on individual students' progress
- Coordinates community and school-based resources
- Additional responsibilities may include; direct a school choir or band; participate in extracurricular activities such as taking students on field trips to attend or participate in various musical performances

- Maintains a safe and creative environment for their students
- Creates a full Spanish immersion environment
Faculty - Supports teachers and co-workers
- Attends all staff/ faculty meetings
- Meets with Primary Years Programme Coordinator to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate program's effectiveness
Administration - Maintains records on each child's progress and development
- Keeps up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, assessment tasks in Managebac
- Carries out supervision at break times, lunch times, and other times as required
- Prepares documentation for IB external assessment
Parents - Communicates professionally and effectively to parents about student progress
- Conducts individual parent conferences at the end of each term
- Establishes a positive relationship with each student's family
- Presents presentations to parents as needed
- Attends parent meetings when required
- Communicates and collaborates with parents of high needs students
Internal Community - Participates in Fundraising and Marketing efforts to support the growth of our non-profit, independent school
External Community - Curates local community offerings and communicates opportunities to school community

- Creates and maintains connections with relevant community resources
