Brooklyn Friends School
US Biology/Environmental Science Teacher
Brooklyn Friends School is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a potentially open Upper School Science position beginning in Fall 2018. Responsibilities of the position include teaching sections of Biology (9th) and IB Environmental Systems and Society (11th and 12th). As the department’s needs change according to the student population each year, other classes may be taught instead, or in combination, including a senior science elective. The US science department coordinator position is also available for the right candidate. The job opening requires an experienced science teacher who is capable of, and comfortable with, teaching students who possess a variety of learning styles and cover a wide range of age, maturity and ability levels. A working understanding of Science Inquiry methods will allow the applicant to fit the science-instruction model that is currently in place at BFS. Applicants must have experience teaching a laboratory biology course and/or an advanced environmentally focused course. IB or AP science experience is a plus.
All teachers are expected to be active community members, sharing supervisory duties and general support and care of the school community. Responsibilities include overseeing students' progress in all classes, serving as an advisor to a group of students, being in contact with parents, and other responsibilities such as participating in overnight trips, teaching our anti-bias curriculum, and leading service learning activities. Interested applicants should submit resume, statement of educational philosophy, and cover letter to scienceposition@brooklynfriends.org
