Congressional School seeks a First Grade Teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. The First Grade Teacher is a part of the Primary School Team and reports to the Early Childhood & Primary School Director.

The First Grade Teacher will work collaboratively to plan and implement a challenging academic curriculum that encourages each student to reach his or her full potential.  The teacher will also work to create a warm, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment in which each child is known, valued and loved.   

Qualified candidates will be knowledgeable about current research relevant to the learning needs of six and seven-year-old students. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, implement, asses and modify curriculum to reach all students.
• Employ a variety of teaching methods to ensure optimal learning.
• Exhibit a high level of engagement and enthusiasm throughout the day.
• Establish positive home/school partnership with each family in the classroom.
• Understand the developmental milestones of children ages 6-7.
• Actively seek opportunities for professional development.
• Perform divisional responsibilities expected of faculty (for example, assisting with writing report card comments, supervising students outside of class times, attending faculty meetings, etc.).
• Ensure proper supervision for the safety and well-being of all students.
• Aid in Integrating meaningful and appropriate use of technology and STEM activities in the classroom.
• Attend school events.
• Actively support the school’s vision, mission and core values.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
