The West Virginia University School of Public Health is seeking applications for a dynamic and innovative leader to serve as Associate Dean for Professional Programs. This position will oversee a comprehensive portfolio of graduate-level professional educational programs, ensuring their excellence and adherence to accreditation standards. He/she will work closely with the Dean, other Associate/Assistant Deans and Department Chairs, and partners across the University to develop and implement new programs and strategic academic initiatives. He/she will also promote and support excellence and innovation in teaching across the School. The Associate Dean will be a key member of the leadership team of the School and will play an active role in defining the strategic direction of the School and in tracking progress towards meeting strategic goals.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Assist the Dean, Senior Associate Deans and Program Directors in carrying out the mission and goals of the College and University. The Associate Dean assists the Dean and Senior Associate Deans with strategic planning and decision-making for the College.
Works with Chairs and Program Directors on oversight of schedule builds to meet instructional and college goals and requirements, including monitoring teaching loads within the graduate programs.
Provides vision, management strategy, and leadership in coordinating the development of curriculum in the School. He/she works closely with the School's leadership team and faculty to coordinate and integrate curricular offerings across professional graduate programs and to develop new professional degree programs.
Supervises the professional degree program directors, provides leadership to the college curriculum committee, assistance to departments in developing curriculum proposals, and providing timely information regarding curriculum policies, guidelines and deadlines.
Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Public Health/Associate Vice President for Health Affairs, the Associate Dean provides integral support working to assure optimal academic alignment and development of educational programs for the academic medical center.
Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in one of the disciplines offered by the college or related field, as well as experience and qualifications for appointment with tenure at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.
Must have a demonstrated record of peer reviewed scholarly publications, as well as success in procuring external grants and contracts.
Leadership experience in the field of health professions at the level of program director or higher, which includes budgetary experience.
Experience mentoring faculty at various stages of scholarly development.
Excellence in higher education teaching (in both traditional and online settings) is expected.
Must have exceptional writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
Strong skills in internal and external networking and collaboration, especially developing strategic partnerships are preferred.
Development experience, especially with endowment and scholarship funds and one-time gifts is especially desirable. (preferred)
Candidates with knowledge of and significant experience with CEPH and CAHME accreditation for professional programs (MHA, DrPH) are highly sought, as are those with a strong national professional network, especially with organizations and associations essential to the development, launch, and expansion of Master of Health Administration and Doctor of Public Health programs and the leadership training inherent to the Institute for Health Systems Leadership. Salary and Compensation: Commensurate with experience and demonstrated leadership ability.
