The master teacher should bring energy and passion for teaching Spanish to the World Language department. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include the following:
Demonstrating a passion for the Spanish language and culture
Exhibiting excellent teaching skills that demonstrate best practice according to ACTFL
Teaching two sections (Spanish I and/or II)
Understanding the development of upper school students and displaying a passion for working with this age group
Connecting with students, challenging them, and shifting pedagogical practice to meet the needs of diverse learners
Interacting effectively with parents and colleagues
Participating in other aspects of the School community as desired by the candidate (i.e. athletics, committees)
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or Foreign Language Education; MA or MEd highly desirable; previous teaching experience in an independent school setting and experience developing and teaching a proficiency-based curriculum preferred. Non-native speakers are required to provide documentation of a minimum of Advanced Low Level on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Scale by way of the OPI (or to make arrangements to take and achieve this level).
