The Calhoun School, a leading progressive, independent, co-educational day school in Manhattan, seeks a part time, benefits eligible Lower School Associate Teacher to begin in August, 2018.
The Lower School Associate Teacher reports to the Director of the Lower School and works in conjunction with, the LS teaching team, LS Curriculum coordinator and Learning Specialists, and the Head of School with the development, implementation, and progression of the Calhoun curriculum, and the success of its students. The Lower School Associate Teacher works closely with the Head Teacher(s) in all aspects of developing and implementing the grade level program.
The scheduled hours for this position are 8:00 am - 1:00 pm.
Essential Job Functions:
Assist with preparation and execution of lessons in the designated subject areas in accordance with the curriculum of Calhoun, its mission and philosophy of progressive education
Assist with development, review, and updating curriculum and curriculum maps as needed in conjunction with the Head Teacher, Lower School teaching team and Lower School Director
Maintain anecdotal and assessment records to inform the Head Teacher in preparation for parent conferences and report writing.
Help lead differentiated and small group instruction
Plan and work closely with grade level teaching teams
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with colleagues both intra- and cross-departmentally to share best practices and ensure student progress
Attend faculty meetings and conferences as needed
Maintain consistent relationships with families, including phone calls, emails and conferences
Engage in the wider life of the School
Have a strong commitment to, belief in and alignment with Calhoun's mission and values
Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of Early Childhood Development
Interest in working at a progressive and humanistic school
Flexibility and ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
Bachelor’s degree required
Experience working with early elementary students
