Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe Wimpfheimer Nursery School, located on the Vassar College campus, is a laboratory school serving as a teacher training and research facility, and welcomes Vassar and community families.
This assistant teacher position will team teach in the mixed-age after school program, with children in grades Kindergarten to Fifth. Responsibilities include creating and implementing innovative curriculum for school age children, providing and modeling positive discipline practices in classroom management, supervising college work study student, writing parent newsletters, assisting researchers working with children, and caring for the general classroom and school environment.
This position is part-time during the academic year, and is not eligible for benefits. The work schedule follows the Arlington Central School District calendar. This position is scheduled for 18.75 hours/week, from 2:15 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Friday. There are some additional days in preparation to open and close the program. Flexibility is required as hours may occasionally need to be adjusted or modified due to staffing or programming needs. Availability from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. is required. This position reports to the director of Wimpfheimer. Start date is August 20, 2018.
Qualifications Qualifications include a minimum of Associate's Degree in Childhood Education or related field. Experience in a lab school setting preferred. Flexibility, creativity, effective communication skills, professionalism and strong teamwork skills are required. Must successfully complete all requirements of the Office of Children and Family Services.
