The W. P. Carey School of Business, Office of Development, is seeking a Development Officer who will cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and potential donors, friends and alumni and develop long-range plans for their involvement in the School and Campaign ASU 2020. Our Development Officers are poised and engaging, motivated and inspired to achieve results, not only as an individual contributor but also as a team member offering input and advice.
This position reports through the development team in matters related to fundraising and prospect development as a collaborative effort in creating strategies that will contribute to the achievement of aggressive fundraising goals. The Development Officer position has a sense of urgency in achieving goals. There is a responsibility for achieving results with and through people sharing knowledge and skills to successfully influence and persuade others. 75 percent of a Development Officers’ work is spent on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing donor investments or stewarding donors, potential donors, friends and alumni.
$46,080 - $55,000 per year; DOE
Manages a portfolio of 50-100 individual prospects with independent responsibility to develop and execute strategies leading to solictiataion of gifts of $10,000 - $100,000 including a significant number of personal visits with these individuals
Identifies, cultivates and solicits a top tier of prospects with major gift capability through research, personal visits, and written and/or verbal communications;
Handles confidential materials and discussions with appropriate discretion;
Develops strategies, briefing materials, written proposals and acknowledgments;
Accompanies School leadership, as appropriate, on development-related visits in the local area;
Plans and implements targeted approaches and, where appropriate, facilitates approaches by others to prospects;
Effectively and professionally represents the school in the development community of ASU and ASU Foundation.
Maintains records of activity and coordinates a variety of activities and/or tasks with the Office of Development team.
Use the alumni donor database, Advance, maintaining current and confidential information on development activities.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM; Occasional in and out of state travel; attends night and some weekend events.
Bachelor's degree in a related field AND three years successful professional development and/or fundraising related experience, preferably in higher education; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Evidence of knowledge in the principles and techniques of: development/fundraising, annual giving and major giving, and corporate and/or foundation fundraising; prefer in a university environment.
Experience in developing and implementing strategies for acquiring new donors, retaining and upgrading existing donors.
Experience in preparing and conducting solicitations via correspondence and in person including making cold calls.
Experience working with high-level administrators, executives and professionals.
Evidence of managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting continuous deadlines.
Evidence of effective communicator who has excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience in work that requires organizational skills, a collaborative approach, and working with people to build relationships.
Experience in representing the institution well

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (60%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work and travel (25%). Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%). Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. Cognitive ability to provide complex assessments /metrics, create and calculate budgets, maintain and track expenses.
