Corlears School is a small New York City independent elementary school serving ages 2 through 5th grade, located in the lively Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. We currently have opportunities for Substitute Teachers for the 2018-19 school year. Whole and half-day coverage is needed for classroom and specialist (Art, Spanish, Technology, Library and Science) spaces.
Candidates should be excited about assisting and supporting the classroom teacher by helping children throughout the day with various tasks and activities. Previous experience and strong classroom management skills are a plus. Comfort and warm with young children is a must.
Ideal Candidates will:
Have an understanding and interest in progressive /constructivist practices and principles
Have experience working with a variety of learners in a school setting
Be prepared to actively participate in all needs of the classroom as directed by the head or assistant teacher
Have experience with managing a classroom of young learners
Possess a desire to further their learning through real classroom experience
Ability to take direction from Head /Assistant Teacher
Be an active participant in the classroom throughout the day
Currently enrolled in or completed an undergraduate/graduate program for education
Skilled in adapting understanding multiple cultural and learning perspectives
