Job Summary and Scope of Responsibility:
Bernard Zell seeks an experienced, creative, and passionate Jewish Studies educator to instill knowledge and love for Judaism, Israel, and values in our students through both academic and social-emotional learning for grades 1- 4. Qualified candidates will work collaboratively across grades and disciplines with a team of exceptional faculty and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach Hebrew language and Jewish studies.
Co-lead grade-level Tefilah services.
Create a rich Hebrew language and Jewish cultural environment in the classroom.
Teach Parshat HaShavua and Tefilah in alignment with school philosophy and desired outcomes.
Introduce students to traditional and innovative rituals and practices for holidays and Shabbat.
Foster the joy of learning and contribute to a spirited Jewish life across the school.
Observe and assess student performance.
Take part in discussions about students, full-faculty, departmental, and other meetings as necessary.
Write progress reports for each student.
Serve as a Jewish resource person to general studies faculty members.
Model a pluralistic approach to the practice of Judaism.
Participate in teacher training sessions and other professional development.
Support and contribute to curriculum development to enhance the program.
Fulfill all teacher duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Bernard Zell Faculty Handbook.
Use Hebrew in daily interactions with students in and outside of the classroom whenever possible.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Hebrew and English fluency – including speaking, reading and writing.
Knowledge of a wide range of language instruction and Judaic resource methods and materials.
Knowledge of Constructivist philosophy and approach.
Preferred experience with Responsive Classroom.
Appreciation of a diverse, pluralistic Jewish community.
Ability to embrace technology and new ways of extending students' learning and creative capacities; knowledge of interactive whiteboard technology, iPads and Chromebooks.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administration to support and extend the objectives of the curriculum.
Experience providing a nurturing, creative, and inclusive environment for students and to create a strong classroom community.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Knowledge of and experience with the cognitive, social, and emotional issues of elementary aged students.
Willingness to learn and grow professionally.
Willingness to collaborate with Jewish and General Studies teaching teams. Other Important Information and Benefits:

Minimum Qualifications: Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Jewish Studies content area (Hebrew Language, Bible, Jewish History, etc.) required.
Master’s degree in Education preferred.
Minimum of two years Jewish day school teaching experience required
