GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Lead Preschool Teacher in the Early Childhood Center collaborates with the Centers for Early Childhood Education teaching staff to ensure the high quality care and education of preschool-age children to encourage self-expression and learning in a play-based, hands-on, developmentally appropriate curriculum.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of the Centers for Early Childhood Education and Assistant Director of the Early Childhood Center
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises early childhood education pre-service teachers, interns, and work study students
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, design, and implement child-centered and developmentally appropriate play-based, hands-on curriculum in collaboration with the Early Childhood Center teaching staff to meet the needs of all children
Integrate curriculum across the content areas and social-emotional learning according to the Massachusetts Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences, Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and NAEYC standards
Model appropriate classroom engagement techniques
Establish verbal and written parent communication, including weekly newsletters and three parent-teacher conferences per year or as needed or requested by parents
Complete developmental screenings and assessments using Ages and Stages, Teaching Strategies Gold, and other instruments to communicate findings and outcomes with parents and to guide the development of the curriculum
Supervise Framingham State University early childhood education pre-service teachers, interns, and work study students
Collaborate with Jeanne M. Canelli Child Development Lab, College of Education, and other colleges/departments on campus
Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field
Hold or have completed an approved program for Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 2) teaching license
Hold or willing to work toward Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Preschool Teacher Certification
CPR and First Aid certification
Have familiarity with diverse models and approaches to curriculum, including teaching those whose home language is not English
Ability to interact well with children, families, and campus personnel
Willingness and ability to learn new skills and be flexible
This posting is for two full-time, 12-month, exempt, benefits-eligible positions within the APA bargaining unit at the rank of Staff Assistant in the Early Childhood Center. Benefits include health, dental, retirement, tuition remission, and generous leave packages according to the APA bargaining unit.
The Early Childhood Center is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. year round. You may be asked to work a few evenings for various family events at the center each year. The biweekly salary is $1,350.00.
Framingham State University conducts background records checks according to the Massachusetts Early Education and Care Department requirements, which include Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) checks relative to prior criminal convictions and pending cases, Sex Offender Registration Information (SORI) checks relative to prior sexual offenses committed as an adult or juvenile, and finger print checks on final candidates prior to an offer of employment for all positions. Framingham State University requires specific written authorization to conduct background checks.
