The Bellevue, Washington Chamber of Commerce is seeking an innovative, decisive, dynamic and passionate leader skilled at building relationships for the role of President and CEO.
Bellevue is the fifth largest city in Washington, with a population of more than 140,000 and over 37,000 companies doing business within city limits. It is the high-tech and retail center of King County's Eastside, with more than 150,000 jobs and a rapidly changing skyline of gleaming high-rises. Bellevue is one of the fastest growing and progressive cities in the nation as seen by our increased population and jobs growth, a culturally diverse community, and an amplified international presence! The CEO will be joining a vibrant and invested community to build upon the momentum our Chamber has experienced over the past several years.
With this much growth, advancement and transformation, our new CEO/President will have a unique opportunity to take our Chamber to new heights of increased membership and strong revenue generation while serving as the voice of business on the Eastside, representing thousands of jobs in the community.
ABOUT THE CHAMBER
The Bellevue Chamber's mission is to create a sustainable environment where our entrepreneurial businesses can thrive and we are the place of choice for talent, investment, and jobs. The Chamber is a nonprofit 501(c)6 organization serving over 500 members with a budget in excess of $1.1MM, funded by membership investments, programs and signature events.
The Chamber has a 40-member volunteer Board of Directors, a 6-member staff plus 2 outside consultants.
The Chamber’s five distinct areas of focus include:
Central Hub for Business: Provide businesses with the marketing and networking tools necessary to enhance member companies’ bottom lines, enabling them to succeed.
Champion for Vibrant Communities: Advocate on key business initiatives at the local, state and federal levels that impact the broader community and help members navigate regulatory challenges.
Connecting & Convening Leaders: Provide connection opportunities at Signature Events and Leadership Programs.
Catalyst for Business Success: Assist businesses in their efforts to expand their operations by identifying and resolving roadblocks that hinder their viability.
Cultivating Talent: Help attract and integrate new talent through relevant information that helps local employees take advantage of opportunities and enhance their community involvement.
Our ideal candidate is a proven leader and consensus builder who is able to promote cooperation, collaboration and partnerships, while advancing the core goals of our organization. S/he will bring a fresh perspective together with the passion and vision to continue the upward trajectory of the Bellevue Chamber - the growth of the Chamber should be a reflection of the growth of the City of Bellevue! Experience should include working with elected and appointed officials as well as local and regional business leaders. The successful candidate will be politically astute, equally a hands-on manager as strategic thinker, creative problem solver and able to respond to new challenges quickly and effectively. An ability to promote an open, inclusive environment with the staff, board and committee members, and other volunteers, will be critical.
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the overall strategic planning, management and success of the Bellevue Chamber, measured by membership, revenue and event growth.
High comfort level speaking in front of large groups of people, including monthly board meetings, business lunches and large annual conferences.
Ability to listen to perspectives of all members, leaders and constituents in a progressive and open-minded fashion.
Increase and retain members.
Management of the Chamber's financial affairs, including the preparation and presentation of an annual budget and sound management of revenues and expenses presented at monthly board meetings in support of the organization's strategic vision. Works with the Board Executive Committee to develop a strategic plan.
Develop funds through member investments, events and programs, sponsorships, advertising and grants to ensure programs and events are sustainable and continue to grow.
Serve as official spokesperson and main contact for the Chamber.
Participate in community initiatives as well as regional and state-wide business and economic-related events.
Identify, recruit and develop a diverse group of volunteer leaders of the Chamber.
Provide vision and leadership for the organization to achieve high level results while maintaining member engagement.
Promote and oversee strategic relationships with elected officials, nonprofits, educational and community leaders, and local businesses.
Collaborate with Board of Directors on solutions to improve the region's business climate.
Provide effective leadership, mentoring and coaching to team members in order to assist them in reaching their career goals, increase their competency and promote team depth and unity. The CEO also provides team members with feedback, rewards and recognition, and effective communication to include timely resolution of complex issues, conflicts and/or concerns.
Oversee social media platforms and marketing strategies
A minimum of 10-12 years of Executive/Senior level management experience which could include private industry, trade associations, economic development and/or related public sector or not-for-profit organizations. The ideal profile of career experiences would include a blend of the above mentioned sectors including executive level role in large corporate or entrepreneurial environment.
A proven successful executive with the ability to provide dynamic internal and external leadership to the Chamber to achieve revenue objectives, budgeted annual gross and net revenue, and other program and financial goals within the annual business plan.
A successful senior level executive with a demonstrated record of delivering results in line with the objectives of the strategic plan.
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic business or political strategies and manage the tactical execution to achieve results.
A business person with a track record of involvement at the leadership level in community organizations, trade associations and public sector organizations.
An excellent internal leader recognized for the ability to develop, motivate and build functional teams that regularly achieve and maintain superior levels of performance.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a credible reputation and high profile presence in the community on behalf of an organization.
Proven excellence in written and oral communication and proven media experience are essential.
Knowledge and understanding of economic development and political dynamics within a state or metropolitan economy of more than 4 million residents.
Experience in soliciting and securing sponsorship dollars from public and private sectors is essential.
An individual who is passionate about the success of business and the quality of life of the community.
Proven experience in political affairs. Experience with lobbying and a track record of successfully influencing opinions of elected officials and in directing the focus of a community initiative or referendum campaign is essential.

Additional Salary Information: The President and CEO is expected to earn an attractive compensation package; appropriate perquisites and some relocation assistance will be provided.
