The Latin School of Chicago’s Lower School seeks a full-time, experienced, long term reading resource teacher for grades kindergarten through fourth grade. This position works in collaboration with other members of the lower school team. A Master’s degree or above in Reading, Learning Disabilities and/or Speech and Language Pathology and 3-5 years teaching experience is required. Strong candidates will be well-versed in educational technology and have demonstrated a commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and professionalism.
The reading resource teacher works with classroom teachers, the learning resource team, administrators, and parents to identify and meet the early reading needs of at-risk students. This position requires the ability to teach both individuals and groups of students identified as being at-risk for reading difficulty. The job also requires working with outside professionals and serving as a liaison between outside professionals, parents, and school personnel.
Experience working within the field of learning disabilities or special education
Experience in multisensory structured language techniques
Ability to conduct evidenced-based reading remediation
Experience in administering, scoring, and interpreting screening and reading assessments and diagnostic tests
Experience in reading, interpreting, and implementing recommendations from diagnostic evaluations
Assess student progress towards learning targets, objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration
Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members by communicating in a tactful, courteous, and confidential manner
Meet the needs of the whole child and support the social/emotional growth of all students
Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment
