The Associate Director of Development provides support in all facets of ACTA’s development effort, effectively applying fundraising theories, techniques, and best practices to achieve annual giving campaign goals. He/she must have strong communications skills with a focus on writing (grant proposals, reports to donors, fundraising letters). He/she must understand and support ACTA’s mission to improve higher education by working with multiple constituencies. He/she must be a team player working cooperatively with other members of the ACTA team. The Associate Director of Development reports to the Vice President of Development & Strategic Partnerships and, on an as needed basis, provides development support and counsel to the President and Senior Vice President.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Vice President in developing and implementing a strategic plan to achieve annual giving campaign goals and objectives.
Assist the Vice President in sustaining current donor base, and identifying and cultivating potential new donors.
Administer and invigorate ACTA’s direct and in-house mail program, to include planning and scheduling of all appeals; writing house file and prospect fundraising letters, informational mailings, and individual letters to supporters; overseeing data selection for donor mailings and list acquisition for prospect mailings; and managing solicitations to ACTA’s donor societies.
Manage and promote the sponsorship program for ACTA’s annual event, the ATHENA Roundtable and Gala.
Oversee the planning and production of development meetings and special events.
Monitor timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure the department’s strategic plan and critical fundraising processes are executed effectively and in a timely manner.
Supervise maintenance of ACTA’s fundraising database, while ensuring protocols and confidentiality safeguards are observed.
Oversee the accuracy of donor records, including correct categorization of donors and gifts, and generate periodic fundraising/donor reports.
Responsible, in collaboration with the Vice President of Development & Strategic Partnerships, for the management and organization of the day-to-day workload and duties of the Program Associate for Development and development interns.
The Associate Director of Development must approach these tasks as an entrepreneurial enterprise, demonstrating a clear understanding of and proactive approach to ACTA’s programmatic activities, and an independent and highly-motivated work ethic. He/she should possess excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills. He/she is expected to be personable, innovative, and principled, as well as to exhibit the highest degree of personal responsibility, accountability, and honesty.
Candidate should have an undergraduate degree, preferably in English, communications, or a related field and have three to five year experience in annual giving campaigns. Salesforce proficiency is required.
