Ursuline Academy is seeking a full-time Middle School English & Writing Teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. We are looking for an experienced and passionate educator to join our Middle School team. In addition to teaching multiple levels of English, this person would also teach several sections of writing and candidates with experience with readers and writers workshop are strongly preferred.
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of current and best practices of 21st century learning, especially as it relates to literacy learning
Collaborate with the English team to continue to develop a strong curriculum map for a 6th through 12th grade academic program
Work collaboratively with faculty to allow for integrated experiences for the students
Use a variety of teaching styles and tools so that each student can be successful and demonstrate achievement of desired outcomes
Demonstrate strong classroom management skills across a wide variety of social and emotional needs
Know and support the school’s mission statement through professional conduct and actions which demonstrate the core values of the organization
Demonstrate personal and professional cultural competence and strong commitment to learning and teaching in a diverse community
Collaborate with colleagues in the design and implementation of the curriculum within the context of the school’s overall academic program
Initiates growth and change in his/her own intellectual and professional development, seeking out conferences, courses and other opportunities to learn
Integrate experiential learning opportunities for authentic skill acquisition including, but not limited to, local field trips and virtual learning
Attend faculty meetings, curriculum meetings, and in-service days; actively participate in faculty work aligned with the strategic plan
Prepare student progress reports and report cards according to the school year calendar
Write newsletters and openly communicate with families in formal and informal ways
We seek candidates who embrace learner-driven approaches/pedagogy; who aim to use a cross-curricular, transdisciplinary approach and actively seeks collaborative approaches with teachers within and outside the department. Our ideal candidate is proactive in setting up a student-centered classroom environment that goes beyond the lecture format and who utilizes 21st century pedagogical approaches to instruction for a significant portion of class time.
