Summary: The Manager of Charter Through College Programs is responsible for developing and implementing a focused strategy to help students attending GVSU charter schools enroll in GVSU and succeed while here. This role will provide all counselors and leaders at GVSU charter schools with consistent management, support, and feedback on how GVSU charter school students can connect with the University. Success will be measured by increased college enrollment and retention rates for GVSU charter alumni attending GVSU. Additionally, this role is responsible for the management of programs that encourage college access and achievement, including campus visits, college prep week, and supporting GVSU charter school alumni enrolled as GVSU college students. They will report to the Associate Vice President for Charter Schools and work out of the Charter Schools Office located in downtown Grand Rapids.
The ideal candidate for this position has a background in college access and/or college success advising. This individual must possess strategic planning skills, as well as outstanding written and verbal communication skills. They must have a demonstrated interest in serving low-income students and is dedicated to doing whatever it takes to support our students to and through college.
Required Qualifications and Education:
Experience in communication, marketing, or education fields
Three to five years of relevant experience
Experience in school counseling and/or university enrollment development
Familiarity with college admissions
Understanding of the barriers faced by first generation and/or low-income students in their pursuit of post-secondary degrees
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Possess excellent organizational abilities and strong detail-orientation
Demonstrated ability to successfully maintain positive interpersonal relationships
Demonstrated experience working successfully under pressure and meeting deadlines
Demonstrated ability to organize own work and coordinate work activities for others
Demonstrated ability to successfully initiate and prioritize workload
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands efficiently
Demonstrated ability to independently design and produce assigned reports as needed
Ability to work varied schedules and travel to GV charter schools around the state.
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
Experience in higher education
Experience in Michigan K-12 schools
At-least two years of adult management experience
Experience with video conferencing technology
Experience coordinating teacher learning
Responsibilities – Essential Functions:
Campus Visit Management–Coordinates and schedules visits to GVSU for all GVSU charter schools. Manages and tracks schools’ requests to attend college visits. Manages all aspects of visit, including programming, staffing, volunteers, budgeting, and travel logistics.
Data Management & Report Design– In collaboration with the Data Analyst, manages the collection and reporting of college enrollment, scholarship, and acceptance data for all GVSU charter schools.
Charter to GVSU Pathway Program Management- Develop and manage a new pathways program for GVSU charter school students to connect with GVSU. Identify eligible GVSU charter school students in collaboration with school leadership and develop regular connections between students and GVSU to increase GVSU enrollment.
Charter School College Prep Week (CPW) Program Management- Manage all aspects of GVSU’s Charter School CPW including budgeting, staffing, volunteer management, fundraising, strategic partnerships, and design.
GVSU Students of Charters Group Management- Manage the development and ongoing coordination of support for all alumni of GVSU charter schools enrolled at GVSU. Work across the University to support these students’ success and retention.
Responsibilities – Non-essential Functions:
Research scholarship opportunities and build relationships with scholarship granting organizations.
Participates actively in Professional Learning Series events related to college counseling.
