Dream AcadeME is seeking a part-time 8th grade science teacher to join us for the 2018-2019 school year as a homeschool teacher for two gifted middle school students.
The teacher will have the rich opportunity to educate in a unique, progressive homeschool setting. The mission of Dream AcadeME is to support each child's creative, academic, and emotional potential by providing an inspired, highly-personalized, diverse learning experienced in a home-based, indoor-outdoor setting.
This opportunity would be ideal for a teacher seeking an opportunity to be at the forefront of an educational movement.
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Education or related field
Minimum three years experience teaching at the junior high or high school level, 7-12 preferred
Ability to achieve strong social emotional and academic results using a social constructivist approach to learning
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Skills in differentiating curriculum and instruction for varied abilities and ages
Experience teaching Biology or STEAM classes
Knowledgeable about progressive and personalized education
Passionate about ‘whole-child’ development
Experience with curriculum development and designing, socratic method, and project work
Able to thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, young non-profit environment
Committed to reflection and life-long learning
Curious about improving teaching practices through discovery and co-researching with students
Capable of taking initiative, experimentation, and flexibility
Compensation commensurate with experience and education
Part time job 2-3 hours for 3-5 days per week
Opportunity for increased hours and work with other families if desired
Lead paired and individualized instruction
Implement classroom management strategies that draw on student’s strengths and participation
Facilitate and engage the students with conflict resolution strategies and creative problem solving
Make learning visible to students, parents, and the community with documentation
Use observation and documentation to assess student learning
Write narrative assessment reports and/or administer testing as requested
Participate in parent communication which may include, but is not limited to daily or weekly snapshots, portfolios, progress reports, emailing, texting, and phone calls
Partner with colleagues and parents
Attend required meetings
Participate in professional development as requested
