University of the Pacific’s Special Education Program provides real-world, hands-on experiences for candidates pursuing a career in the field areas of mild/moderate and moderate/severe disabilities. Our innovative and cohesive curriculum includes courses that are collaboratively developed and co-taught. Faculty members have deep professional integration with early intervention, P/K-12, and higher education throughout the San Joaquin and Sacramento Valleys. The Special Education Program strives to be a hub of innovation and learning in the area of Special Education for families, community stakeholders, and local school districts. We seek a team member with a courageous spirit to help us fulfill our vision to provide expert instruction from experienced faculty who deliver relevant and rigorous academic, social-emotional, and life skill instruction to passionate pre-service Special Education candidates.
We search for a motivated colleague committed to a highly sequenced and integrated program design, focused instruction interwoven with hands-on teaching experiences, sustained mentoring, and personalized advising.
• Graduate degree in a field related to Special Education • Demonstrated skill, expertise, and innovation of a minimum of seven years as a full-time practitioner in special education in PK-12 settings. • Commitment to fostering a caring and rigorous educational environment • Ability to collaboratively engage with colleagues in program development and teaching • Commitment to personal development and growth in one’s own teaching and practice • Excellence in applied scholarly research or evidence-based practice • Demonstrated interest and experience in working in partnership with community groups, schools, government agencies, and other organizations • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and working with students from multicultural communities • Demonstrated leadership and experience in developmental disabilities, assistive technology, positive behavior supports, and transition planning
