Mayfield Junior School, a leading independent Catholic K-8 school located in Pasadena, is seeking an Associate Teacher to assist the lead teacher in teaching a diverse group of learners in an atmosphere of kindness while upholding all aspects of the MJS mission and Holy Child goals.
Skills and Competencies:
A sound knowledge of childhood development and pedagogy
Dynamic, engaging personality
Knowledge of and ability to support current technology (Macs and iPads) throughout the curriculum, Apple teacher certification desired
Collaborative and flexible team player
Sense of humor and love of this age group
Supportive, nurturing, warm personality
Experience in a faith-based or independent schools a plus
Duties and Responsibilities:
Works with the teacher to plan and implement a program of instruction suitable to the academic and social/emotional needs of the students
Works with small groups of students or individual students in order to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of all learners
Helps provide teacher with important information about student progress by sharing information about observations of students with the lead teacher
May be asked to instruct or manage the whole class of students, according to teacher lesson plans or provided curriculum materials
Assists the teacher in assessing students’ needs and progress
Helps the teacher prepare materials for lessons, including photocopying, laminating, cutting, organizing, collating, filing
May be asked to help find additional resources in books, online, or from other sources
Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and new programs
Classroom Management & Organization
Helps with classroom displays of student work
Helps organize materials
Works with teacher to ensure that consistent behavior standards and/or behavior plans are applied
Works with teacher guidance to establish consequences or discipline
Communicates promptly with lead teachers when incidents occur
Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with parents
Communicates, when directed by lead teacher, to parents about student progress or concerns
Attends workshops and training as directed
Participates in MJS Faculty Professional Growth Review process
