Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for a Middle School Science Teacher, for the spring semester of the 2018-19 school year (January 22 through June 12). This is a semester-long, half-time position (.50 FTE) to replace a teacher on leave.
Responsibilities The Science Teacher position, reporting to the Middle School Science Department Head and the Middle School Director, will join a highly collaborative department and group of 8th grade teaching peers. Specific responsibilities for this position include:
Teach two sections of 8th-grade earth and physical science. Curriculum may include tectonics, meteorology, oceanography, climate change and sustainability. Class size is 16-18 students per class. Both classes meet in the morning.
Provide academic support for students outside of class time (e.g., answer homework questions, provide extra help, review class material) as needed.
Collaborate actively with colleagues in the science department on innovative curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment. Department emphasis is placed on encouraging students to develop scientific habits of mind and critical thinking skills. The middle school program teaches fundamental concepts of natural science, physical science, and environmental science.
If possible, depending on meeting times, attend science department, 8th-grade advising team, and faculty meetings.
Participate in the life of the school community, including optional participation in week-long outdoor trips, various service days and after school athletic events.

Possess a Bachelors degree (or higher) in science or a related field.
Have experience teaching middle school, high school or college students.
