The Philadelphia School is searching for a full time early childhood educator to fill a lead co-teaching position in one of our preschool classes for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year. Our preschool classrooms are taught by two lead teachers and one associate teacher who work in classrooms with approximately 22 children. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other preschool teachers, the learning resource team, and with specialists to engage and meet the need of our youngest TPS students. Our early childhood center was designed specifically for our youngest students. It has light-filled classrooms, direct access to a large, nature-based play yard, raised garden beds, a kitchen, studio space, and an adjacent multipurpose building. While the year is focused on an exploration of “Ourselves and Our Families”, the preschool program is largely emergent, responding to the needs and interests of the children in the classroom and grounded in progressive pedagogy.
The Philadelphia School seeks educators with a deep interest in social justice and a commitment to personal and professional growth. We seek to hire an experienced early childhood educator with strong classroom management and communication skills, as well as a flexible approach to teaming with colleagues. We expect all of our teachers to build respectful and supportive relationships with their students, develop strong home-school partnerships with parents, to participate in school-wide initiatives, and to work closely with their supervisor to develop their craft. Experiences in environmental and outdoor education, Responsive Classroom, The Project Approach, art, drama, and gardening are all a plus.
Years of experience:
2-5 years of teaching in an early childhood setting.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, with a master’s degree preferred.
