Assistant Professor of Secondary Teacher Education (Tenure Track)
The Department of Secondary Education is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor of secondary teacher education in the College of Education at California State University, Fullerton. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual committed to promoting just, equitable, and inclusive education to teach in and contribute to leadership of the Single Subject Credential Program. There may also be opportunities to teach courses in our 100% online Master of Science in Education program. CSUF values and is dedicated to the goal of building a diverse community. The Single Subject Credential Program is a university-wide collaboration that serves credential candidates in the areas of Art, English, World Language, Foundational Level Mathematics, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Sciences, and Social Studies. Responsibilities of the position include:
Contribute to the Single Subject Credential Program by teaching online, hybrid, face-to-face courses at the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate levels;
Teach general methods and pedagogy classes taken by teacher candidates from a variety of content areas;
Collaborate with colleagues to conduct program/course planning and revisions;
Participate in and expand partnerships with area schools that support the professional growth of our candidates and district teachers?
Pursue a research agenda related to teacher preparation and teacher education that leads to peer-reviewed publications and peer-reviewed presentations;
Participate in writing large, externally funded grant proposals to support innovations in teacher preparation;
Assist the department with service and committee work?
Engage in ongoing professional learning to maintain currency in the field?
Provide service to the University, Department and Profession.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in Teacher Education or a related field from an accredited institution (if ABD, doctorate must be completed by start date);
Three (3) or more years of full-time public school teaching experience as a credentialed teacher at the secondary level (middle school or high school);
Demonstrated experience and commitment to working effectively in the education of linguistically and culturally diverse adolescents;
Demonstrated experience with supporting educators to meet the educational needs of linguistically and culturally diverse adolescents;
Demonstrated experience using current technology to support teaching and learning; and
Active and sustained scholarly activities related to teacher education.
Ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, staff, and colleagues
Preferred Additional Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues who share diverse perspectives and experiences;
Strong record of scholarship including publication in peer-reviewed journals;
Demonstrated success in obtaining external funding;
Demonstrated expertise with research on teacher education and current best practices for clinical preparation of teachers (e.g., residency model, co-teaching model);
Demonstrated experience in teaching in hybrid and online delivery formats, including use of rich media and interactive strategies;
Earned National Board certification and/or bilingual authorization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Rank and Salary The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate to experience and qualifications. Salary is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
