Position Description: The Research Associate (RA) is responsible for assisting the Workshop faculty with ensuring the successful delivery of an ongoing series of "CEO Workshops" at the Harvard Business School. These workshops are of critical importance in serving Harvard Business School's leadership executive education initiatives; accordingly, the work and demeanor of the RA must match the exceptional standards set by the high-profile nature of these programs. Adherence to the Workshop's strict confidentiality requirements is expected.
Duties and Responsibilities: The RA will have four primary areas of responsibility including but not limited to:
New CEO Workshops: Two-day seminar style workshops currently run twice per year, with an alumni session occurring annually.
Responsibilities include: screening and recruiting participants; maintaining a database of prospects and alumni information; faculty preparation in the form of written comprehensive briefs (including financial data and analysis, trend identification), presentation preparation assistance, and teaching group meetings planned and lead by the RA; working closely with the Executive Education planning team and the ISC Administrative Manager, and other Harvard offices on matters pertaining to the course and other related activities to assist in the administration of the workshops. As the content of workshops is constantly revised to reflect the changing issues facing CEOs, the RA will work proactively to identify these CEO challenges, as well as in developing corresponding research materials.
CEO Time Study: A comprehensive study of a CEO's time conducted over a dedicated 3 month period.
Responsibilities include: recruiting participants from the New CEO Workshop alumni; travel to CEOs location to train the CEO and the assistant on the Study and procedures; data input, analysis and presentation; trend identification.
Skills: Comfortable meeting individually with a CEO, comfort traveling alone, extensive experience with excel, intermediate knowledge of R and web-based applications, strong data analytics and statistics skills, excellent communication skills.
CEO Book: A book written by Michael Porter, Nitin Nohria, and Bill George, which is currently in progress.
Responsibilities include: version control, literature research, statistic computations, line and grammar editing.
Skills: Strong conceptual skills, knowledge or interest in the subject matter, strong writing/editing ability.
Special Faculty Research: The RA supports the four faculty in their work directly related to the CEO Workshop and any surrounding research initiatives that come from this work.
Responsibilities may include: data collection and analysis, literature reviews, article and book summaries, writing briefs or short cases, internet searches or the like.

This a full-time term appointment starting ASAP through June 30, 2019 with likely reappointment. All Research Associate roles at HBS are structured as term appointments with potential for reappointment. Preference for a candidate who is able to commit for at least 2 years.

Advanced degree or professional experience strongly preferred. Statistics and/or economics background with strong data analytics skills preferred. Strong research/administrative support experience, with experience developing and managing relationships with high level constituencies. Must have extremely high standards in terms of quality of work and ability to work with shifting priorities and under tight deadlines. Proven project management, operational logistics, and organizational skills are essential. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to work both independently and as a team member. Proven communication and organizational skills, initiative, flexibility and attention to detail. Interest in and knowledge of leadership literature and issues. Prior experience and a high degree of comfort with R code, excel, and web-based applications will be important. The Workshop participants' companies will represent numerous industries; accordingly, the RA must have broad business exposure and demonstrate fluency in a variety of industry structures and dynamics. The willingness to learn and grow in the position is essential.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Access), intermediate knowledge of R (required), extensive experience with excel, Web Applications, and willingness to learn new programs.
