Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Principal Medical Records Clerk for the Medical Records Department for the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Principal Medical Record clerk will be responsible for performing a variety of complex computerized clerical duties, requiring independent judgment, in support of the patient record keeping system.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Catalogs boxes to be sent for archiving and assists staff when retrieval of information from archives is necessary.
Assists in creation of patient portal accounts and assists patients with access when necessary.
Reviews charts for potential duplicates and merges records, when necessary.
Assists staff and faculty with record completion to maintain standards established by the practice.
Provides customer service to those requesting copies of records and guides them through the request process.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High School graduate or equivalent.
At least one (1) year of medical records/EMR based experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Candidate must possess excellent communication skills, be professional, friendly and able to handle pressure.
Must have excellent computer skills, with accuracy and efficiency.
Ability to type 20-30 wpm with data entry experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to sit for long periods of time. No special vision requirements. Ability to bend, stand and lift weight of less than 25 lbs.
