The District features ten outstanding schools which enjoy a statewide and national reputation for excellence. K-3 students flourish in six neighborhood schools (Briarwood, Brookview, Colebrook, Listwood, Seneca, and Southlawn), where they receive individualized attention in a close-knit environment. Two 4-6 schools (Iroquois and Rogers) introduce students to a larger and more complex setting, while still offering the support needed for each student to succeed. The Board of Education consists of seven members, including the President and Vice President. Board members are elected for overlapping terms of three years such that three, two and two members are elected each year.
Also as part of its community outreach the Board collected input regarding the educational challenges ahead for the District and the professional experiences and personal characteristics the next Superintendent should possess. After a careful review of that information, the Board has determined that the ideal candidate will be:
A successful educator with teaching and building and/or District-level administrative experiences, preferably in a community similar to West Irondequoit.
A creative thinker and visionary, who will first learn the culture and history of the District and then facilitate the focus on student development and the improvement of student learning.
