Job Description Summary
The Interdisciplinary Humanities Program at Wake Forest University invites applications for a non-tenure track, post-doctoral fellow position to begin in July 2019. The term of appointment is two years. Wake Forest has a strong institutional commitment to faculty diversity and excellence and is particularly interested in candidates who can bring to their research and teaching critical perspectives linked to the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education.
In the last three years, Wake Forest has been awarded two major grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support public humanities and the engaged Liberal Arts, and we seek candidates whose experiences and professional training are well-suited for working with local area communities. The final candidate is expected to create a hub of collaboration across disciplines and communities and to be a key participant in our engaged humanities initiatives, including international conferences and forums that ask new questions and reframe critical issues regarding race, labor, housing and gentrification, food justice, community leadership and empowerment, and poverty and health.
The teaching responsibility is one course per semester in the engaged humanities. As a University committed to the teacher-scholar ideal, Wake Forest expects excellent teaching at all levels, a sustained commitment to student and community engagement, and an active research agenda.
Applications must be received by January 31, 2019. A completed application includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three-page statement of teaching and research philosophy, and one scholarly writing sample. Additionally, three confidential letters of recommendation must be sent to email@example.com in advance of January 31, 2019.
