Sacred Heart Greenwich provides an empowering learning environment for girls and young women from kindergarten through twelfth grade to prepare them to become confident, intelligent and compassionate global leaders. The school offers a coed program for young children at the Barat Center for Early Childhood Education. Our 700 students carry on the Sacred Heart tradition of academic excellence and development of the mind, body and spirit on our beautiful 110-acre campus in Greenwich, Connecticut. We are currently seeking an Upper School Mathematics Teacher for two leave replacements. The first leave will be November- Christmas Break and the second leave will be from February- June.

Job Summary The Upper School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for providing a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in a way that is in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education and the philosophy that implements it. This philosophy includes providing children opportunities to develop spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.
Responsible for teaching up to four sections of Upper School Mathematics.
Coordinating lesson plans and communicating with teacher on leave.
Providing activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of his/her students
Planning and preparing supportive and caring classroom environment in which children can learn and interact positively with one another; overseeing instruction and authentic assessment; supervising children in the classroom
Interacting with parents; maintaining open and cooperative communication with parents and families
All teachers are expected:
To assume serious collaborative responsibility for the educational environment of the School by conducting themselves at all times in a responsible, ethical, and professional manner
To be available one week before the opening of School to attend teachers’ meetings, etc., and to be available one week after the Upper School’s graduation to attend teachers’ meetings and complete end-of-year duties
To attend all faculty meetings and workshop days as they are scheduled during the year
To assist at School functions designated by the Head of School as necessary for the operation of the School, e.g., Parents’ Night, Open House, Parent/Teacher Conferences, etc. It is understood that these duties may sometimes extend beyond the normal hours for school
To participate fully in regular School programs, e.g., committees, assemblies, field trips, etc.
To share in the planning and direction of student activities and School programs, if appointed by the Head of School
To maintain high standards for his/her on-going professional development and to participate in the professional development programs offered by the School
To assume responsibilities as assigned for the supervision of students, including at times of early dismissal due to inclement weather. It is understood that these duties may sometimes extend beyond the normal hours for school
To use technology effectively as part of classroom instruction
To interact positively with colleagues in creating and imparting interdisciplinary units of study
To fulfill responsibilities as assigned by the Upper School Head in regard to lunch and recess duty, car and bus dismissal
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years teaching experience, experience teaching upper-school aged students or higher, experience with classroom technology, comfort in collaboration with colleagues, and creativity in approach to classroom teaching.
