Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses -- one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, and the other in Manhattan. The Fieldston Middle campus located in Riverdale is comprised of approximately 400 students in Grades 6-8th.

Currently, we have a position as a Science Teacher. The ideal science teacher candidate is knowledgeable about and has experience with differentiated instructional and assessment practices, is open to their own continued professional growth, and understands how to instruct students with a growth mindset in science. The estimated dates of leave are February 25, 2019-April, 26, 2019.
Fieldston Middle School is looking for an outstanding, experienced, middle school science teacher, who is comfortable working in a progressive school and in a highly collaborative environment for a maternity leave replacement for the spring of 2019. ECFS Spring Break takes place between March 18-29th, 2019.
Responsibilities include teaching a full-time course load of 4 sections of 8th grade science (physical sciences based curriculum); grading and providing feedback on assignments/projects, working as a member of the 8th grade team, attending faculty meetings including science department and 8th grade level team meetings, and other shared middle school responsibilities.
Ideal candidates will be energized by employing a range of pedagogical approaches and will be excited by the opportunity to teach a diverse student body in a values based community. The ideal candidate has also demonstrated a commitment to hands-on learning, as well as addressing issues of equity, belonging, and privilege, within and outside the classroom. A passion for working with middle school students, a flexible attitude, a commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of humor are essential.
Bachelor’s degree – in science field, with physics, physical science, chemistry or engineering fields preferred. Master degree preferred.
Minimum 2-3 years of relevant teaching experience
Knowledge of science safety requirements, open to feedback, and works collaboratively
Excellent written and verbal communication skills,.
Prior work in a middle school environment.
Proficient with technology, including Ipads, Smartboards, Google platform
