Charlotte Latin School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and flexible French teacher to join our Middle School faculty beginning August 2019. This position is ideal for motivated teachers with a particular passion for teaching middle school students. Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extra-curricular activities, advising, and/or coaching.
Particular consideration will be given to applicants equally versatile for teaching French across levels and grades. Desirable candidates will display strong collegiality, a sincere interest in contributing to student life activities, and a philosophical alignment with our core values and curriculum.
A Bachelor's degree in French is preferred, with strong interest for candidates at the Master's level
Experience teaching Middle School aged children preferred
Experience teaching in an independent school preferred
Display an ability to provide an acquisition-rich learning environment based on principles of cognitive science and current field-related research
Exhibit overall competence within the 6 Core Practices and language proficiency standards from the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)
Have an ACTFL Oral Proficiency rating of Advanced or higher
Engage students in acquiring the ability to function in all modes of communication in the target language
Foster an enthusiasm for the French language and cultural products, practices, and perspectives
Display a commitment to life-long learning and on-going professional development related to SLA and language teaching pedagogy
Utilize technology to support instruction and assessment when appropriate
Exhibit a love of working with children in this age group
Strong classroom management and organizational skills, commitment to safety and civility
Strong desire to participate in the whole life of the school
Show a great deal of flexibility in working with colleagues and students and sharing classroom space
The ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and serve as a collaborative team player
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
