Job Title: Long Term Substitute: Chinese Assistant teacher
FLSA Status: Professional Exempt
Reports to: Assigned Lead Classroom Teacher, Director of Teaching and Learning, Executive Director, Assistant Principal, and/or other assigned supervisors
Position Overview: The assistant teacher engages in the implementation of teaching and learning programs, assessment, and reporting at grade level(s) and/or classroom(s) assigned at Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School. The assistant teacher is expected to work closely with his/her grade level team, planning together, and attending collaborative planning sessions with grade level members and single subject teachers. The assistant teacher will also comply with other school operation procedures accordingly and may take on additional responsibilities as requested by the school.
Collaborate with assigned personnel on instruction, classroom management, and student assessment. Duties may include:
Further the educational and social development of students under the guidance of the lead classroom teacher(s), coordinators, and other assigned supervisors.
Take on lead teaching responsibilities when lead classroom teacher is out of the classroom.
Participate in the planning and implementation of Individual Education Plan (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress.
Implement appropriate student assessment and reporting procedures in collaboration with lead classroom teacher(s).
Spend over 80% of instructional day working with students in teaching capacity.
Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in school activities. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
Use appropriate technology and resources to advance and support classroom instruction.
Help with classroom, playground, student lunch, and field trip supervision.
Comply with all school procedures and schedules.
Perform other specific job related duties as requested.
Contribute to school and individual team development. Duties may include:
Participate in collaborative team planning sessions with grade level members, single subject teachers, learning support team, and other Yu Ying community individuals as necessary.
Substitute for lead classroom teachers or assistant teachers in appropriate grade level(s) and/or classroom(s) if necessary, to advance and support the teaching and learning programs of the school.
Collaborate with other professionals and/or team members, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary.
Assist with other classroom and school duties as necessary. Duties may include:
Be responsible for general housekeeping, meal, and administrative tasks, including but not limited to: creating/preparing needed materials; coordinating displays of students’ work; taking student attendance, etc.
Assist lead classroom teacher(s) with maintaining student records.
Contribute to the extra curricula activities of the school and be involved in school development.
Undertake other duties from time to time as the lead classroom teacher(s) require(s).

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Strong drive to take on training and responsibilities that would facilitate the path to a lead teaching role.
Appreciation and understanding of Chinese culture.
Native-level proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is required
Excellent verbal and writing communication skills and strong motivational skills.
Warm and friendly personality; sensitivity to the feelings and needs of children; ability to relate well to children and staff.
