Santa Margarita High School (SMCHS) offers a coeducational, college-preparatory education developing students who are people of faith, skilled lifelong learners, healthy individuals and involved citizens of the world. Under the leadership of the Diocese of Orange, the school’s 42-acre campus is nestled against the picturesque Saddleback Valley Mountains in the Southern California community of Rancho Santa Margarita. The school opened its doors in the fall of 1987 and the charter class of 216 students graduated in June of 1991. In 2017, The Washington Post ranked SMCHS as the #1 Catholic high school in all Southern California.
Now home to more nearly 1,700 students each year, SMCHS boasts dedicated faculty and staff, extensive academic programs, International Baccalaureate Diploma program, faith-filled activities and competitive athletics. Reporting to the president, the principal serves as a member of the administrative board, which includes the president, vice presidents, vice presidents, assistant principals and athletic director. The principal leads the faculty, staff and students in all aspects of the Santa Margarita Catholic’s college preparatory program to ensure the highest quality of spiritual, social, physical and intellectual outcomes for every student. The principal oversees all phases of policy development related to academics and student life while ensuring the implementation of the school’s mission and core values. As chief operating officer, the principal is responsible for the successful day-to-day operation of the school as accomplished through the effective delegation of responsibilities to administrators, faculty and staff.
