Friends Academy is seeking a confident, compassionate, and courageous Lower School Principal effective
July 1, 2019. The essential duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
In collaboration with the Leadership Team and the faculty and staff, articulate and implement a strong vision aligned with the Mission of Friends Academy and connected to the school’s Strategic Planning priorities.
Partner with the teachers and support staff to ensure that the Lower School’s program and culture are optimally supportive of the physiological, cognitive, social, spiritual and emotional needs of young children.
Support the strong sense of community among the teachers, parents, and students rooted in Quaker values.
Cultivate a culture of high standards and accountability for students, faculty, and staff.
Support and guide the faculty as they work collaboratively to build and pilot signature programming supportive of authentic learning.
Supervise and support grade level teams and curricular leaders to ensure timely support and communication to and with students and parents/guardians.
Represent Friends Academy as a member of the Leadership Team to faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni and community partners.
In concert with the Leadership Team, the next Lower School Principal will be an experienced leader and change agent who will be responsible for inspiring the Lower School community toward the realization and implementation of a strong vision and goals. The ideal candidate will have a background that demonstrates most, if not all, of the following:
Ability to articulate the vision of Friends Academy and to inspire the lower school faculty in implementing that vision.
Demonstrated expertise in curricular and pedagogical best practices at the lower school level.
Proactive, timely and effective communication skills with all stakeholder groups including parents, students, faculty and community partners.
Demonstrated success in leading change and innovation within a school context.
A warm, compassionate approach to the lower school child and an understanding of the many facets of her/his journey.
A leadership approach that includes deep listening of many voices and an ability to make decisions when needed.
Teaching and administrative experience at the lower school level.
A sense of humor, a strong sense of self, and a deep love for the lower school child.
An advanced degree is preferred.
