St. Paul’s School is searching for a full-time Middle School Social Studies Teacher. This position involves teaching Social Studies classes in either 5th and/or 7th grade or a combination of those grades. The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching middle school boys, and an interest and curricular vision to enhance the program and expand upon its offerings to further grow and enrich the overall the Language Arts Department. The teachers should use a team-oriented approach and place the needs of the students first.
The teacher will also serve as an advisor to a group of 8-10 boys. The advisor acts as the primary advocate for each advisee and point of contact for parents. The advisor is also responsible for delivering the schools character education program.
The teacher will be assigned two activities. Ideally coaching 1 or 2 sports in the Middle School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Four classes, homeroom advisor, and two extra-curricular activities or the equivalent represents a full-time teaching status.
Applicants must have a background in and the ability to captivate and challenge adolescent boys through the teaching of Social Studies. In addition to a passion for the education of middle school boys, an ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic, and willing to teach as a member of a grade level academic team. They will also be an advisor to a group of middle school students as well as lead or assist 2 extracurricular activities such as a sport. The Middle School Language Arts Teacher will work collaboratively with the Lower and Upper School English Teachers, as well as with other members of the middle school faculty.
The highly effective St. Paul’s middle school Social Studiesteacher will:
Demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of middle school language arts and pedagogy.
Foster an exciting, dynamic, hands-on, and creative learning environment wherein the teaching of skills, knowledge, and instilling a passion for Social Studies is critical.
Plan, evaluate, and revise curriculum, course content, course materials and methods of instruction.
Actively engage students in the curriculum and concepts through varied and differentiated instruction.
Incorporate various forms of technology within the classroom and lessons.
Identify and/or develop resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds and learning styles.
Work closely with the Middle School Leadership Team, as well as the Lower and Upper School History faculty in a K-12 curriculum development.
Be compassionate, kind, and love teaching/working with middle school boys.
Be a lifelong learner passionate about his/her discipline, and continually refines and develops their pedagogy.
Be willing to work in an interdisciplinary, cross-curricular, and collaborative environment.
Demonstrate flexibility, resilience, accountability, and humor.
Serve as a great role model and advisor for adolescent boys.
Consistently seek excellence, feedback, and demonstrate a growth mindset.
Creates a positive learning environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Certification in Social Studies education grades K-12 is not required, but is given consideration
Knowledge of Project/ Problem based learning is not required, but will be given strong consideration
Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
