Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school in Washington, DC, seeks a 7th-8th grade History teacher beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.
This History teacher will be responsible for teaching 7th grade course offerings in United States history and 8th grade Ancient World history. A deep understanding of both United States history, politics, and culture is required, as well as a similar understanding of ancient World civilizations. An ability to teach analytical writing, critical thinking and research skills is also necessary. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and will show a willingness to work collaboratively and thrive in an environment committed to academic excellence. An appreciation for young adolescents and a sense of humor are also essential.
Other duties include: advising a group of 7th and 8th grade students; writing student reports; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; attendance at meetings; and collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines in the Middle School and other divisions.
Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree in History or a related field (an advanced degree is preferred) and 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level.
