The Arts program at St. Francis Episcopal School meets the needs of both the dedicated student artist and the newcomer by exploring the possibilities, collaboration, and connectivity of the arts with a focus on how the arts are relevant to their world. By starting with foundational training in each discipline, the interdisciplinary and collaborative approach explores the varied modes of expression presented through the historical, the scientific, the mathematic, and the digital interconnectivity seeking to create articulate, imaginative, and informed storytellers. The faculty teaching artists are committed to starting to build the students’ critical appreciation of art in the first years and then allowing them to learn by doing, and finally work alongside the upper-class students on projects of their choosing from idea to inception. Throughout the four years at St. Francis, the student will be given agency to make artistic choices for themselves within an appropriately competitive, but inviting and inclusive environment that encourages all students to embrace their imaginative gifts and creative spirit.
When seeking to add teaching artists to our developing Upper School, we look for a collaborative colleague who aims to contribute to the ongoing creative and intellectual development of our existing Visual Arts Department and join the new Upper School fine arts team. Applicants should demonstrate collaborative, innovative pedagogical skills, and the expertise and enthusiasm to teach students with all levels of experience. The ideal candidate should welcome the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of school life. We are looking for an upbeat, flexible, adaptive, inspirational, creative partner who approaches new experiences with a sense of humor and a joy for their craft. In addition to teaching courses in their area/discipline, the instructor would be responsible for the showcasing of student works, various visual collaborations with the performing art department, themed events, collaboration on a possible annual art car entry, assistance with the mural wall on the South Campus, various projects in our Immersions and Explorations program, open houses, and development events. We are looking for a candidate who has experience and expertise in the creation and implementation of a brand-new visual arts program. Particular consideration will be given to candidates who possess skills in 2-dimensional art, film, and/or photography. This position would be included in the recruitment of additional high caliber teaching artists and provide leadership, support, information, and motivation to those who join our creative team while ensuring the ethical and inclusive treatment of anyone who works at or comes into contact with the arts department at St. Francis Episcopal School.
