Music teachers report to their respective Principals, as well as the Music Department Chair. Music teachers are responsible for the planning, implementation, and delivery of the curriculum, as well as supervision of students both in and outside of the classroom. They must also work collaboratively with members of their own department, administration, faculty, and support staff, throughout the entire School.
Music teachers have the responsibility to monitor and report on the performance of students, recognize problems, and coordinate with administrators, other teachers, and parents, to correct identified problems. The Music Department consists of fifteen faculty members, supported by a project manager.
The Department is responsible for the music education of students in grades nursery through twelve. Courses taught by the Music Department include general music, band, choir, orchestra, jazz band, music history, music theory, and digital music production.
Music department members are also expected to actively pursue professional development in the areas of pedagogy, teaching techniques, and technology relevant to the field and subject, to provide students with a learning experience of the highest quality.
In addition, members of the Music Department are expected to participate in the scheduled concerts for each academic year (at present, each ensemble performs an average of two concerts per academic year).
Duties include instructing and supervising third and fourth grade students providing music classroom instruction; creating a nurturing, challenging, and supportive classroom environment that fosters mutual respect and age-appropriate levels of independence and collaboration; monitoring the performance of students and communicating concerns with administrators, other teachers, and learning/counseling faculty, and parents.
Full-time teachers are expected to work a 40-hour work week and the required number of days as stipulated in the Faculty Association contract. All teachers are expected to perform in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The anticipated start date for this position is 9/1/2019.

Education, Experience or Certifications:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Master's Degree preferred.
Degree in Music Education preferred.
Coursework or degree that reflects multicultural content preferred.
A minimum of three years of teaching experience preferred.
Experience developing curriculum preferred.
Experience working with a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning abilities, class, language, and nationality.

Ability to walk around the building during the school day and climb stairs to escort children in and out of the building during let out and in the event of an emergency required
