Harvard-Westlake, a coed, independent school in Los Angeles serving nearly 1600 students in grades 7-12, seeks to hire an exceptional and highly qualified individual for a full-time teaching position in the history department at the Upper School (grades 10-12). The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of modern European and world history, and the entire narrative of US history. Candidates will also show an interest in teaching high school students in a rigorous college prep curriculum and be prepared to integrate themselves in the life of the school. The History department values team teaching, innovation and collegiality.

Bachelor's degree in history or a similar field; MA or Ph.D preferred;
Ability to teach World and Europe II, U.S. history, and potentially A.P. U.S. history;
Strong communication skills and team-player attitude;
Demonstrated ability to communicate concepts in a clear and concise manner to students and foster an innovative and creative learning environment;
Ideal candidates will be excited by becoming part of our vibrant school community, broadly engaging with students and colleagues, and attending events outside their particular field of study.
This position is full-time starting in the 2019-20 school year.
