Explorer West Middle School, a small independent middle school in southwest Seattle, seeks a qualified math educator for the 2019-2020 school year. Explorer West was founded in 1996 and today has enrollment of 107 students comprising the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The school has a major emphasis on the core academic classes, and the students are also required to take three years of music, drama, and art. The students also participate for three years in our outdoor education program. The school was founded on the philosophy of treating everyone with respect, along with the core values of: integrity, a willingness to help others, confidence, and personal and community responsibility. The school has 11 classroom teachers and an outdoor education coordinator.
Position Description: Full-Time Math Teacher/ Math Department Chair (Chair)
The Math Department Chair is responsible for teaching two sections of 6th grade math, one section of pre-algebra (7th grade), and two sections of Algebra I (8th grade). The Chair is responsible for implementing a differentiated curriculum to serve students at all readiness levels. The Chair is responsible for a supervising a 14 student advisory group that meets for 30 minutes daily; the advisor role includes serving as a primary point of contact between school and home for those 14 students.
