Charlotte Latin School is seeking a Physical Education and Health teacher for grades 6-9. This position will also serve as the Head Varsity Baseball coach and is responsible for overseeing all Middle & Upper School levels of the program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Physical Education & Health Teacher
Teach Physical Education & Health, Grades 6-9
Supervise Locker Room before and after classes
Communicate effectively with Department Chair
Manage equipment used in classes
Participate in Experiential Education and Emotional Intelligence training
Lead Intramural classes as scheduled
Work as a team with other teachers in the department, including sharing space & equipment
Participate in gym supervision during recess time
Attend department and division meetings
Perform other job related duties as assigned
Intramural Program Coordinator
Ensure program provides opportunities for students to be successful in non-traditional settings and activities including allowing students to face new challenges, learn new skills, demonstrate civility, and have leadership opportunities.
Serve as a first point of contact for P.E. teachers, Advisors and Students regarding the program
Create, schedule, and teach various games and activities for advisories to participate in during Physical Education classes.
Partner with the Experiential Education team regarding experiential education activities
Work closely with the P.E. teachers to be sure they know the rules and objectives of each game and have appropriate space and equipment to safely and successfully supervise each activity
Schedule and support students involved with the Word of the Day, promoting CLS core values and providing leadership and public speaking opportunities for our 8th grade students.

Head Varsity Baseball Coach
Maintains a safe environment for student-athletes at all times.
Supervises and provides instruction to student-athletes during all activities.
Hires coaches for all levels of the program.
Manages budget for all levels of the program, including purchasing equipment, supplies and uniforms.
Maintains inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms for all levels of the program.
Prepares the schedule and determines travel needs for all levels of the program.
Meets with prospective new families and provide feedback to admissions.
Provides frequent and timely communication to the Athletic Director regarding the program including team and coach performance.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Supervises head and assistant coaches within their program.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health or closely related field
Three to five years’ experience teaching Physical Education and/or Health classes
Experience teaching in an independent school preferred
3+ years Head coaching experience with a high school, competitive middle school or club team, or high level playing experience in collegeor equivalent combination of education and experience.
A positive, upbeat coaching style
After-school availability starting at 3:30 PM for practices and games from Feb- May
Willingness to learn or experience teaching Experiential Education activities
Demonstrates knowledge of the sport with the ability to teach required skills at each level.
Exhibit a commitment to wellness and working with the whole child
Exhibit a love of working with children in this age group
Strong classroom management skills, commitment to safety and civility
Strong desire to participate in the whole life of the school
