Incarnate Word High School is a private, Catholic, day and boarding college preparatory school for young women in grades nine through twelve, founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. As the oldest Catholic, all-girl, college preparatory school in San Antonio, this vibrant school community has a storied history of academic distinction. In 1989, the University of the Incarnate Word entered into a collaborative agreement with the high school. Since then, all college facilities have been available to the high school students. Incarnate Word High School is located in north central San Antonio near the campus of the University of the Incarnate Word. The school currently enrolls 452 young women representing all areas of the city and surrounding communities, as well as international students from Mexico, Latin America and Asia.
The Principal serves as the educational leader, responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe traditional Catholic learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school. The Principal will be responsible for effective communication and a positive working relationship with the University of the Incarnate Word through its management function, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, and the Archdiocese of San Antonio. The Principal will report to the Dean of Education at the University of the Incarnate Word. The successful candidate must be a practicing Catholic with a proven record of educational leadership.
Ideal candidates will have a passion for Catholic education, particularly the single gender secondary education of young women, and be well-versed in addressing the challenges and opportunities within our Catholic schools. S/he must be experienced with strategic planning and have progressive teaching and administrative leadership experience in a college preparatory setting. With a visible executive presence in and outside the school community, the Principal must be comfortable in leading all areas of school advancement and associated initiatives. An advanced degree in an education related field is expected.
