St. John the Evangelist Catholic School is seeking a principal who will continue its tradition of excellence and lead the school in fulfilling its mission of educating students to bring Christ’s message of faith, hope, and love into the world. After 20 years of leadership, the school’s current principal is retiring at the conclusion of the current academic year.
St. John School is a thriving pre-K through 8th grade school following in the tradition of St. Francis and the Sisters of Charity and located in historic Lawrence, Kansas, home of the University of Kansas. Since its establishment in 1956, St John School has been celebrated for its educational excellence, diverse student body, spirit of service, and faith-directed purpose. Students consistently achieve standardized test scores exceeding state averages.Supported by the generosity of our parish and benefactors, St John School has added middle school grades, additional facilities including new gym and performing arts center in 2016-2017. St. John School currently has a student body of approximately 300 students and a faculty and staff of 24.

Ensure continued academic excellence
Attain and utilize an up-to-date understanding of child and adolescent development and education to promote a safe, youth-centered, developmentally-appropriate learning environment
Preserve the school’s accessibility regardless of family financial circumstances
Foster strong relationships with students’ families and partner with parents with wide ranging academic, artistic, scientific, and other professional experiences to improve the education and culture of the school and the services offered to students
Maintain and expand the school’s tradition of a student body diverse in race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, immigration status, and physical, emotional, and educational needs
Leverage the unique educational opportunities afforded from the school’s close proximity to a large research university
Support and expand the student body’s participation in charitable service to vulnerable populations in the community
Applicants should be a practicing Catholic and have a master’s degree in school administration. The school’s search committee will begin assessing qualified applicants on March 1, 2019.
