Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for a full time Middle School English teacher to finish out the remainder of the 2018-19 academic year. This is a full time, 1.0 FTE appointment beginning immediately and ending mid-June 2018. Responsibilities The English teacher position, reporting to the Middle School English Department Head and the Middle School Director, will join a highly collaborative department. Specific responsibilities for this position include:
Teach four sections of middle school English which focus on creating confident, fluent writers and critical, insightful readers;
Provide academic support for students outside of class time (answering homework questions, providing extra writing help, etc.) as needed;
Collaborate and participate in the work of the English Department on innovative curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment;
Attend English Department, grade-level team and faculty meetings as scheduled;
Act as co-advisor for middle school students; and
Participate in the life of the school community which includes grade-level outings, admissions events, and engagement with student life.

Bachelor’s degree in English or a closely related field (master’s degree is preferred);
Minimum of three years’ experience teaching English, preferably to middle school students;
Passion for interacting with middle school level students in and outside of the classroom;
Thrive in a highly collaborative work environment that values innovation and creativity;
Sense of humor and a pitch-in, can-do attitude are highly desirable;
Able to utilize technology to enhance the classroom experience and to use a range of literature and resources that represent diverse cultures, experiences and viewpoints.
Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
