Co-Head Teacher for 6/7s Classroom for 2019-20 School Year
Corlears School, a small New York City independent school located in the lively Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, is seeking a Co-Head Teacher for one of two 6/7s classrooms. Candidates should be excited about and ready to embrace the school’s focus: serving children in the early childhood and elementary years, and helping them to become compassionate, innovative leaders.
The successful Head Teacher candidate at Corlears will:
Value the school's mission to support students who are economically, racially and ethnically diverse, as well as those coming from diverse family structures
Have a thorough grounding in progressive / constructivist practices and principles
Have experience working with a variety of learners in a school setting
Have the motivation and skill to provide professional feedback to Assistant Teachers
Be comfortable generating and collaborating on curriculum work and planning with AT
Be comfortable partnering with families for the benefit of students
Have strong written and interpersonal communication skills
Be committed to ongoing professional growth
Be curious and committed to adapting technology for the classroom in order to enhance student learning
Have a sense of humor and a drive to collaborate with colleagues
Qualifications and Requirements:
Head teaching experience a must, preferably in a progressive school
Experience with TERC Investigations for Math; Math In the City Units
Experience with Teacher’s College Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop Units of Study
Responsive Classroom training / exposure
Handwriting Without Tears handwriting program
M.ED, MA or MS in education
Fluent in English and Spanish a major plus
