Purnell School seeks candidates for the position of Studio Arts Teacher. This is a full-time position beginning in late August 2019. Candidates should possess a Master’s in Art Education or an MFA. Some teaching experience is required. A background and/or degree in special education or learning disabilities is preferred.
Candidates should also be willing to contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom. Most faculty live on campus, and housing is available. Families and pets are welcome. Candidates should support the mission of the Purnell School to teach girls who learn differently.
Teach studio art classes and one class of Art History
Provide effective and supportive instruction for students with diverse learning profile including learning disabilities and ADHD
Model flexibility in implementing best learning practices
Support the well-being of all students
Participate actively in other aspects of the student experience and school functioning, including leading a student club or activity and participating in mandatory residential duties
Collaboratively plan, observe classes, and design cross-curricular projects with members of a dynamic academic team
Attend selective professional development conferences/seminars to further enhance professional knowledge
Provide support to 3-4 students as their Advisor, the main communicative link between students and their families
Work collaboratively with faculty and administrators
Demonstrate a sincere interest in teaching and learning and a positive growth mindset
