The kindergarten teacher leads a self-contained classroom of approximately 20 students along with a dedicated assistant. River Oaks Baptist School focuses its curriculum on the integration of the 6 C’s: character, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and cross-cultural competency. All classrooms in our lower and middle schools are equipped with Promethean boards, and kindergarteners have access to iPads. As such, a successful candidate will demonstrate proficiencies in both progressive and traditional pedagogies as well as innovative technology to support the curriculum.
The teacher should be an enthusiastic, energetic colleague with a passion and initiative for life-long learning. The teacher must also be dedicated to the character development of the students, be organized, communicate clearly and easily with adults, and have the ability to balance a variety of demands.
The kindergarten teacher is a collaborative member of a grade-level team that plans and works closely together. The teacher is responsible for instruction in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. The students also have weekly classes from the special area teaching team in art, Bible, computer, library, music, and Spanish as well as daily recess and Physical Education.
The teacher is supported by curriculum coordinators, the reading specialist (K-2), the counselor, the learning specialist, and the Assistant and Division Heads of Lower School.
