Garrison Forest School has an opening for a Part-time Upper School Science Teacher to begin in August 2019 for a one-year position. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator who brings an energetic and contemporary approach to the teaching of science. The ideal candidate would be able to teach physics and/or chemistry and engineering. Along with classroom teaching, contributing to the co-curricular life of the school is an integral part of the teacher's role in our community, as is a collaborative approach to planning and teaching. A desire to contribute to the leadership and scholarship of young women are important qualities for this position, as well as an ability to build positive, constructive relationships with students. This position reports to the Head of the Upper School and meets with the Chair of the Science Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach Upper School Science classes.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
Contribute to the life of the School by chaperoning two-weekend activities per year for the Residential Life program and advising co-curricular activities.
Work alongside the Upper School Administrative team to build a meaningful learning experience for students
Create a secure and stimulating environment in which students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and interact together.
Take responsibility for being a role model by maintaining an environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues
Possess strong communication skills, a patient and thorough understanding of adolescence and the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues.
Take on additional opportunities as a coach or residential faculty if desired.
