The New Community School is currently hiring an Upper SchoolEnglish Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.
This teacher will teach small classes of students in a supportive, professional environment.
Job Description: The teacher will:
Teach small classes (8-10 students/class) of English courses designed to provide remedial instruction in basic composition skills and a structured approach to literature analysis using varied instructional strategies.
Adjust and enhance the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of the students.
Include project-based learning in order to make the content relate to real life.
Utilize standards-based assessment to determine students mastery of learning objectives.
Contribute to the rich Upper School student life program.
Serve as the faculty advisor to a small group of students.
Facilitate ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress, including formal written reports in accordance with the school calendar.
Participate in the school’s extensive pre-service/in-service training and mentoring program.
Contribute to other aspects of the school’s extra-curricular program including one or more of the following: Athletics, Physical Education, Technology, and Practical and Fine Arts.
Perform other supervisory duties as assigned.
Requirements: The ideal candidate must possess:
A strong interest in learning disabilities, exploring varied instructional strategies, and working with students who have struggled in previous school placements.
A bachelor’s degree, Virginia state licensure, and two years’ teaching experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
A desire and willingness to grow professionally and work as part of a team.
