Mackintosh Academy, a co-educational independent school serving gifted students in K through 8th, is seeking a Design/Innovation Specialist and MYP Math Teacher for the 2019–2020 academic year. Create and teach required Design classes to 6-8th Middle School students as part of our integrated IB Middle Year Programme (MYP). Collaborate in the design and teaching of elective/supporting Design classes and support to Lower School students in K-5th grades as part of our integrated IB Primary Year Programme (PYP).
Lead the development and implementation of our unique Design and Innovation program focused on growing four major areas: electronics, design engineering, coding & programming, and robotics.
Run our Design Lab – a space that is rapidly evolving to meet the needs of our dynamic programming & student/teacher interests. Our lab is equipped with an exceptional range of tools and materials.
Help students build lasting understandings of the design process through direct hands-on experience and investigations.
Math Position Description:
Teach upper level math courses potentially including but not limited to Algebra II and Geometry.
Craft, in collaboration with curriculum coordinator, curriculum maps/unit plans that promote interdisciplinary
connections and authentic “real-world” problem solving opportunities while teaching and assessing skills.
Provide coherent, deep, inquiry driven instruction in alignment with CCSS standards and IB criterion;
Reference local high school curriculum documents to align curriculum maps with expectations for graduating students.
Understand and be able to differentiate for the needs of gifted math students as related to pacing, instructional strategies, and assessment for math courses.
Middle School General Responsibilities/Descriptions:
Co-Run a Middle School Homeroom and share in frequent and effective communication with homes and colleagues.
Facilitates the social & emotional development of the students. Key components of our daily life include: morning
meetings, service & leadership opportunities, class & school-wide agreements, rituals, routines, and all-school gatherings.
Coordinate/run Middle School electives, Friday exploration and service learning options. There are additional optional opportunities to expand programming to afterschool classes and summer camps (for additional pay).
Participate in Middle School Fall and Spring trips.
Participates in staff meetings, retreats, and on various committees.
Supports the overall mission of Mackintosh Academy.
Bachelor’s Degree & preferably a Master’s Degree. K-8th teaching experience is essential, and teaching in a hands-on environment (maker spaces, electronics, wood working, programming) is preferred. Knowledge of gifted children, a plus.
