Marin Preparatory School (MPS) is a TK–8, co-ed elementary and middle school with approximately 200 students. We offer a Spanish Infused, rigorous academic program with an equal emphasis on the social/emotional well-being of our students. We are located in San Francisco, CA.
MPS is accepting resumes for Lower School teachers (grades 1-5). Lower School teachers are responsible for teaching the core academic subjects of reading, writing, mathematics, and social studies. The school seeks a teacher who appreciates and can foster a strong social/emotional environment for students. The school embraces both Responsive Classroom and a Mindfulness based approach, believing that academics along with a strong social/emotional program offer the best learning environment.
The program offers a blending of traditional and progressive education, with core standards coupled with a project-based approach to learning. Teachers with particular strength in differentiated instruction are most encouraged to apply. Adjunct responsibilities require the ability to work alongside and develop curriculum with an assistant teacher. Also required are strong communication skills with parents and parent/teacher conference skills; ability to fulfill auxiliary duties as assigned, team player working in a collegial manner with faculty and staff; punctuality and a desire to let kids know you are excited about learning.
Education / Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree
Prefer teaching credential
Prefer at least three years teaching experience Spanish speaking ability preferred
Familiarity with Lucy Calkins, Bridges curriculum and Foundations curriculum preferred
Develop lesson plans, instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Use a variety of teaching strategies, such as inquiry, group discussions, lecture, discovery, project-based learning, and technology.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional, engaging learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Evaluate students’ academic and social/emotional growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means students’ progress and social/emotional growth.
Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive bulletin boards, displays and interest centers.
Maintain and build professional competencies by participating in Professional Development opportunities.
Effective communication with the Head of School around student, parent and colleague issues.
Administer effective evaluations including standardized tests.
Participate in curriculum development.
